Guangzhou Academician and Expert Programme

Dong Qingxi, a Foreign Member of the Engineering Academy of Japan, is currently a professor at Hainan University, the Director of the EduScience Research Institute in Japan, and a visiting researcher at the University of Tokyo and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan. His primary research areas include civil engineering, focusing on rail transit, underground space, and complex rock mechanics problems, seismic wave propagation and disaster prevention and mitigation, multi-field coupling analysis, advanced manufacturing, and thermoplastic carbon fiber reinforced composites. He has led and participated in major projects funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Railway Technical Research Institute, as well as the Flagship 2020 Project’s Exascale Computing Numerical Simulation Software Platform in Japan. He owns the proprietary supercomputing software support platform EduS/FrontISTR.

Relying on the resources of the academician and expert team, the programme organizes the unit’s scientific research team to carry out cooperative research on key or common technologies in research directions such as advanced construction technologies for rail transit, rail transit safety assurance technologies, underground engineering disaster prevention and control technologies, and supercomputing and application technologies for structural engineering in complex environments. As a world-class engineering expert, Academician Dong will also lead the team to focus on the country’s major needs, concentrating on key areas of rail transit and civil engineering, enhancing scientific and technological levels, forming internationally leading scientific and technological achievements, and advancing our institute and relevant fields in Guangzhou and Guangdong Province to new heights, thereby serving the social and economic development of the Greater Bay Area.

In 2023, our institute successfully hosted the 36th "Huacheng Academician Forum" under the auspices of the academician and expert programme. The forum, themed "Enhancing Urban Infrastructure Resilience to Support High-Quality Urban Development," invited dozens of academicians and experts in the field of urban transportation infrastructure to gather in Huacheng, garnering positive responses within the industry. In the same year, our institute participated in the China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Achievements Fair Academician Achievement Exhibition Series, where our exhibited projects were rated as the "Most Investment-worthy Technological Achievements."
