Professional Law Firm Assists in International Legal Risk Prevention, Empowers Compliance Expansion in Overseas Markets

With the launch of the 2025 "Overseas Engineering Elite Training Program," the design institute’s overseas strategic layout has entered a new phase. To systematically enhance the risk prevention and control capabilities of overseas operations, on May 30, the institute invited three partners from King & Wood Mallesons—Xu Xianhong (Beijing), Liu Yang (Beijing), and Hu Lingbo (Guangzhou)—along with consultant lawyer Owen (Guangzhou) to conduct a case-sharing session on international legal affairs. The session focused on legal practices and risk control strategies for large-scale infrastructure projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.

A professional legal team, leveraging practical experience from mining development in Myanmar, energy construction in Australia, and large-scale infrastructure projects in the Middle East and Africa, systematically analyzed key challenges in cross-border collaboration—such as intermediary information gaps, email evidence chain management, and dispute negotiations—as well as systemic risks like policy volatility due to regime changes and credit crises involving partners. They also delved into specialized compliance frameworks for sectors like minerals and power plants, offering in-depth insights into the legal challenges faced by enterprises "going global."

During the interactive session, the focus shifted to practical problem-solving. Representatives from the Overseas Business Department, Corporate Management Department, and Finance Department engaged in in-depth discussions on critical aspects such as drafting core clauses for cross-border contracts, selecting optimal international arbitration institutions, practical applications of guarantee letters, and the legal positioning of overseas branches. The King & Wood Mallesons team emphasized the crucial role of country-specific due diligence and full-cycle document and data management in mitigating compliance risks, providing methodological support for the execution of overseas engineering projects.

This exchange enhanced participants' understanding of risks and compliance in international business expansion. It also signified the integration of the design institute’s global strategy with specialized expertise. By incorporating professional legal experience, the institute is building a systematic risk management framework, laying a solid safety foundation for high-quality global market development.
